The studio’s final design concepts culminate from a progressive exploration of ideas drawn from research, traditional craftsmanship and digital technology. After studying multiple aspects of a project—from site analysis and usage flow to the historical and geographical details—Aharoni begins to explore ideas by carving and painting six-inch Balsa wood cubes (see Hexahedra under ART).The resulting cubes may represent a structural element, express a design gesture or circumscribe spatial relationships indigenous to the project. Facets and ideas emerging from the cubes are further developed through free-hand sketches. These aspects of ideation create an invisible yet palpable scaffold for each project.Ultimately, two articulations of the final concept are realized: a Balsa wood scale model and a fully realized 3D software rendering in which Aharoni synthesizes conceptual, structural and site considerations within the specific architectural context.
