Redux
In a series of digitally altered photographs, the erasure of context and contrast recontextualizes classical and contemporary sculpture, excavating the purity of figure and form. This vanishing perspective accentuates the beauty of the materials, such as monochromatic plaster or textured ceramic, revealing the delicacy of sculptural line and contours created by shadow and light.
Transcribing the sculpture into photographs of original and color-inverted images further divorces the statuary from its original context and the familiarity of an exhibition milieu. By melding the sculptural form with a background void, the image reemerges in a perspective that manifests the acuteness of the object or pose in its arrested gesture.
