clear the logs Designing Nightlife Village underground, Greenwich Village New York In a design for a Manhattan nightclub, sinuous openings in a mahogany and stainless steel wall reveal exquisite glimpses of Botticelli’s Birth of Venus. Just as Venus rises from the waves in this Renaissance masterpiece, the wall itself is a conceptual wave: the pattern of openings on the wall is informed by wave theory, charting the collision of two waves of different amplitude when they pass through each other. The sixty-foot-long composition is a dialogue between the openings created by these colliding waves and the images they reveal, a series of deconstructed details from the painting that are printed on a diaphanous mesh that is silhouetted against a rough brick wall.
